VIBRATION ANALYSIS BY DLI ENGINEERING

The Need For Vibration Analysis Accuracy

DLI Engineering  is renowned for their unique approach to vibration analysis and delivering not just tons of data, but  highly accurate diagnosis of machinery fault conditions.

DLI delivers more than exception reports deliver.  They deliver machine intelligence with actionable recommendations to correct the real machine faults found.  No list of "possibles" with percentages; no guesswork.

Who Trusts DLI For Accurate Results?

DLI Engineering developed methodology and delivers surprisingly accurate assessment of machine condition under the most extreme conditions.  For 17 years, DLI has had the US Navy contract for the US carrier fleet including the nuclear carriers.  On an aircraft carrier, that's a lot of machinery.  There's little machinery aboard that is "routine" or "balance of plant" when you are out to sea on a mission.

Can You Afford DLI?

Given a fair look and evaluation of all the value of the DLI solution, the answer is yes.  Many customers with solid programs say they can't afford to be without DLI: one of the "best business decisions" they ever made.

The Need For Accuracy & Cost Management

Who collects The Data?

DLI developed a method to collect data that  anyone can use with confidence of their results and accuracy: an operator on rounds, a trainee, a "swabie".  You do not need to be a trained vibration analyst to collect the data properly & consistently, essential to success.  You do need one to support the program.  If an employee, this methodology frees them up for added support of the other important PdM efforts in your plant.  The ones that usually suffer from lack of support but have big payoffs for your PdM programThis was essential for the Navy PdM program and translates to great value for you.

Time saved and what it's worth.

Time Saved in Data Collection:  Triaxial accelerometers are used to collect three times the data in less time than single axis sensors.  "Triax's" are "keyed" to the machine location: no mistakes.  More data is collected from a machine than commonly used methods  because of the ease of collection.

This "extra data" has valueThe huge machinery database generated over the 40 years of DLI's experience and DLI's unique software approach, give DLI the exceptionally accurate results on which the US Navy carrier fleet as well as other customers such as Boeing, DaimlerChrysler, Grand Coulee Dam, or Kimberly Clark in all  industries in all parts of the world rightfully depend.

Time Saved in Data Screening:  It is estimated that vibration analysts spend 85% of the time collecting data and screening the data from "healthy machines".  Any manager would welcome freeing up the time of this highly trained specialist for other PdM program work.  DLI delivers again.  The large volumes of data are accurately screened by DLI software with only actionable items brought to the analysts attention.

Time Saved Finding Root Cause of a Machine Problem:  This is a big one because so many people and perhaps plant output are involved.  The vibration analyst is on the spot.  The analyst may be a true veteran or newly trained.  Competitive software may show 80% chance. it's X, 60% chance it's Y assuming it's enough data and correctly taken.  If the analyst gets it right, the plan is set, the people are prepared, the right parts are available, and the machine comes down at an opportune time.  If the analyst's wrong...

Time Saved On Software Configuration:

DLI ExpertAlert software saves your vibration analyst time in other ways.  Both ExpertAlert software and competitive vibration software requires setup time.  DLI offers "Setup Wizards to make it easier.  Competition requires setup time for each machine for "bands" around the many frequencies of interest on a machine, envelopes, multiple alarm levels and specifics down to knowing the bearing and its multiple frequencies.  With ExpertAlert, you don't need to know the bearing frequencies.  ExpertAlert finds the bearing frequencies and can even track the changes.  Ask us how e-mail me Gene Ort

Software Maintenance Time Saved:  Not keeping up with machinery changes is one of the major reasons programs suffer or fail.  As an example bearings get changed and the analyst must verify the bearing make and model number, look up the multiple bearing frequencies, apply them, set multiple new bands and alarms for every bearing changed.  That's assuming they were notified of the change.

Onsite or Offsite Vibration Analysis

Onsite vibration data collection is the norm and DLI does this extremely well.  Their ExpertAlert software delivers more.

Offsite data retention and analysis capabilities offer great advantages when sharing data with DLI for Analysis support, or for larger companies sharing the "machine intelligence" with corporate support & management.

Is The Data At The DLI Remote Site Secure?

DLI went to extreme measures to satisfy the security requirements of the US Navy.  Your data is secure with DLI.  That makes it easier to justify remote analysis support and database replication for added program backup, support and corporate benefits.

Question:

Have you ever met a vibration specialist who got their training and experience  in the US Navy?  If you have, have you ever found one who didn't really know their stuff, how to apply it, and had a great work ethic?

In my considerable years, I have met many and hold them all in the highest regard.  DLI's close association with the Navy and the many people at DLI who were trained in the Navy make DLI uniquely qualified to support your PdM program and train your people to the same standards.  DLI technical support people have what a GE division manager once told me was the "authority of knowledge".  They can really educate & train your people because people are eager to learn from them.
